14 Apr More wind, less wind
More wind, less wind
14 April 2013
After the wind decreased and the engine took over the work, the wind returned of course. We set the sails again and turned the engine off. At first the wind was a bit weak, so we set all the sails and with a light speed we sailed further. Until the barometer dropped and the wind increased. It was a blessing because we gained some speed. But the wind kept on increasing so we had to take away sails. The wind became stronger and stronger so we had to reef the sails. But this was not sufficient enough so we reefed the sails as much as possible. This way we still had a lot of speed so we made good headway over the last hours. Now the wind has decreased to 5 à 6 Bft and the wind turned a bit so we also set the topsail and inner jib.
During the day we are constantly followed by different shearwaters and also albatrosses pass by once in a while. If is funny to see how you get used to things; the first albatross was photographed 200 times and now most cameras stay in the pocket when another albatross flies by.
This morning we saw a beautiful rainbow. But when the first pictures were made the bell for breakfast rang. And breakfast won. Now we are sailing and the weather is great and the forecasts are good. The ship lies steady in the waves so everyone can rest for a bit.
Tristan here we come!
