Fishing on the ocean
15 April 2013
Jan G. reports:
“Today it is a good day for sailing. My watch is from 2 to 8 PM. The waves are not too high and we have a speed of about 5 to 6 knots, ideal weather for fishing. It is time to use the fishing rod that I brought on board the ‘Oosterschelde’ in Rotterdam. I attached a special kind of bait to the fishing line. And after about an hour of dragging through the water, it is on! The sound of the running fishing-line causes a rush of adrenaline. We cannot let this one get away so we have to keep the line tight. Tension rises as we pull in the line. Will it be a garbage bag again or a real fish just like we caught between Sal and Salvador? At 15 meter distance our catch becomes visible, it is a small tuna! We know Wouter can make a fabulous dinner with this but we still have to haul the fish in. Maarten, our strong first mate, grabs the line and pulls it up. On deck we see a nice small tuna of about 5,5 kg. We admire our catch and I prepare it for consumption.”
