18 May Changing sea life
Changing sea life
18 May 2013
The expected wind came and yesterday morning we could set sail. It felt great when we turned off the engine. The swell is quite heavy in the southern point of Africa, around three metres. This means we have to be extra careful with the sheets. Last night we had some showers and the wind increased to 5 Beaufort.
We make a good speed and are very satisfied with the weather conditions so far. Now when the air pressure increases, the wind decreases a bit. We will see what the night brings us… Since yesterday morning the water temperature increased from 16 to 19 degrees Celsius, which also changes the sea life. Today we have seen many gannets, brown petrels, Atlantic yellow-nosed albatrosses and grey-headed albatrosses. We have also spotted two whales today! And the first fish we caught was taken away from us by one of the birds.
