The last bit of our leg to Mauritius
23 June 2013
In the latest update, we first visited La Reunion. The voyage went very prosperate and it felt like we had only left Durban yesterday. The welcome on La Reunion was very warm and friendly. Many enthusiastic locals, who had seen the ship sailing already, welcome us. The island is marvelous with volcanic mountains and great waterfalls. One of the volcano’s is still awake. The next day we have an ‘open ship’ which was very successful. We have welcomed many visitors, all very friendly and interested. They all thank us for visiting the island. The next sailing trip to Mauritius is 120 miles, which would be around 30 hours of sailing. The team work is great, and we reach Mauritius smooth and fast. After custom clearance we set sail again and sail to Old Grand Port, which is in the south of the island.
Due to beautiful but dangerous reefs, we need extra focus to enter the bay. We visited the island and visited a historical fort, we snorkeled and after 2 days, we sail sail back to Port Louis, with 4 extra guests on board. We sail around the other side of the island, and have rounded the whole island now. W are welcomed by many fisherman’s boats, 2 fireboats and many people, music and drinks. A great atmosphere! The next day we say goodbye to most of our guests and several crew members. Bernt, Maarten, Jacob, Peter, Yorick and Fennardie waive off. David and Ben stay on board, and the crew is complemented with Frainko, Jana and Wouter, as well as 2 new crew members; Jan and captain Terry.
