Change of Captain
11 September 2013
Update by captain Gerben:
“After a flight of 26 hours I arrive tired at the airport of Melbourne where a very unfriendly lady in uniform suspects I am smuggling illegal animals or plants into the country. After a very thorough examination she concludes this is not that case and I can go to the ship. The ‘Oosterschelde’ is berthed at Williamstown at the other side of the bay. The crew is already a sleep besides Terry and Anthony. We drink a beer on my arrival.
The next morning starts early, with a meeting at the Royal Yacht Club. Here we get information about the Admiral Sailing Day. After that the ship is open to the public and Terry informs me about maintenance and other stuff that captains talk about during the handover. With captain Erik of the ‘Europa’ and Gijs of the ‘Tecla’ I have a lecture about our ships and our voyage. Dinner I had to skip. It is always an adjustment, the first day back on board.”
