Spring
18 September 2013
The transition from The Netherlands to Tasmania is not very big, as far as the weather is concerned. Today a grey sky, 14 C and rainy. Some places have familiar sounding names: Maatsuyker Island, De Witt Island. But, the landscape is very, very different: high mountains and cliffs in a wild area. We put on some extra clothes and then the rain can be handled very well.
The wind is still an easterly. Here, in the roaring forties, the sea rises very easily, so we’ll wait a bit for backing winds before rounding the cape. Forecasts promise us such a change tonight. Sometimes we see one of the other ships. They all wait a bit in the area.
