Drake Passage 2
2 January 2014
We are getting closer to Antarctica and the temperature is dropping. Since yesterday the water temperature is just below 2 degrees Celsius. The wind, now coming from the cold South, makes it even more unpleasant on deck. But we did see the first Gentoo penguin about 200 km from shore.
The Cape petrels around us cheer us up. These friendly birds have been following us for days now. Their favourite spot is at lee-side in the water or flying alongside the railing.
If the wind will turn like predicted we can change our course and sail directly to our destination. From that moment we have about 1,5 day to go to the South Shetland Islands.
