The last iceberg
14 January 2014
It is a great misconception that it is only foggy when there is no wind. Yesterday we had thick mist all day and the wind increased to 5Bft. Mist, wind and icebergs are not a good combination and therefore we had two people on the lookout during the day. Much longer than 30 minutes wasn’t possible due to the cold (it is still about 2 degrees above zero), so we asked everyone to help us and we could rotate. A number of times a growler was spotted, sometimes at only 50 meter distance. It became a little more relaxed when the mist disappeared this morning. On the horizon we could see an enormous iceberg. Will this be the last one and our final goodbye to Antarctica?
