Leaving the Falklands
20 February 2014
Update by Peter van Gilst:
“Today shortly after breakfast we departed from the Falklands. The night before we enjoyed some afternoon shore time and in the evening we were welcome in the seaman mission down the road. There was the possibility of using wifi and everybody gladly made use of it. Happy to have been able to make some contact with the loved ones back home; people returned to the ship quite cheerful. After having a drink or two and enjoying another sumptuous meal by our chef Job we turned in, resting in quiet anticipation of what was to come, leaving Port Stanley.
Finally the morning of our long awaited ‘real’ departure arrived. Fully realizing that those few hours on the quay were most probably going to be the last ones ashore in a long time people were seen texting and calling one last time with those left at home. Now steadily on our way for 7 hours already, we are slowly getting used to the life at sea again. With a lively sea beneath a steady blow and us abeam, we are rolling and swaying over vast mountains of water, away from yet another magnificent place.”
