Enjoying the ocean
26 March 2014
Update by Geert:
“It’s just a matter of time before we’ll catch up with the Northeasterly trade winds, and than we shall sail to the Northwest. This will not direct us to the Azores, but we will be able to sail some course is the right direction. In the meantime we still have to live with our faithful engine, and we have to arrive to Horta at a certain day.
For us Northerners the constellations will be more recognizable at night. Low above the horizon behind our ship is the Southern Cross, which we will never forget. Meanwhile we are looking up to the Big Dipper. It won’t be long before we can see our common Polaris.
Due to an atmospheric abnormality the range of our VHF is ten times more than normal: now we can listen to the port authorities of Conakry in Guinea, and enjoying the AIS we are able check on professional ships sailing the coastal waters of Western Africa. All in all, even without sailing, there is always something to enjoy while being on the Atlantic Ocean.”
