Tip of the wedge
5 April 2014
Update by Arian:
“When the whole voyage still lies ahead of us, we tend to say, when the wind is not from the right direction: “Ah well, then we sail in another direction.” As our final destination is closing in, we do not say that anymore. It is like sailing on a wedge of cake, with Horta as the small tip of the wedge. That is where we want to be on the 14th of April. Logically it isn’t good for a sailing vessel when the wind blows from that tip. Every day we check the weather forecast in detail. What if?
Momentarily we are making a nice northerly progress with a fine southwesterly breeze. How long it will stay this way is uncertain. Hoping for a nice depression is normally quite odd, but now it is the topic of discussion on board.”
