Faial

15 April 2014

The green hills of the island Faial seem to be divided into terraces. But in reality bamboo hedges divide different fields from each other. There is not much else to see. This small island in exposed to the elements of the ocean so trees have a hard time growing here. We also have a great view on the volcano of Pico, the neighbouring island. The top is covered in snow. There was no rain today and with the evening sun starting to shine it is a beautiful sight.
A large low-pressure area west of us causes a southeasterly flow and we decided to take advantage of this and depart this evening. Our new guests just arrived on board, but most of them have been on the island for a few days and are looking forward to go to sea. The ship is provisioned and today we even found the time to do some maintenance. We are ready for the last leg of our voyage around the world!
