30 May On the road again
On the road again
30 May 2014
After a great arrival in Rotterdam after sailing around the world for a year and a half, came a busy time for the ship and her crew. There was big maintenance to be done before the season kicks off again. Last month the bowsprit was taken of the ship, the paint was scratched off, then checked if it had no defects and then painted, reassembled and put back on the ship.
From the outside the ship has been painted again, the propeller is readjusted, the fore peak has been sand blasted and painted, the topsail gaff was restored, the galley is rebuilt, our engines had a check-up, and so on.
After all that the bed sheets went to the dry cleaner, the beds have gotten new mattresses and the cabins got new carpet. We can say we had a pretty busy month. With all the maintenance being done, the sailing has already started of with the Father-Son Weekend. Thursday morning the fathers and sons came aboard for a four-day sailing trip to wherever the wind takes us. On the joy of a calm wind and under the guidance of the ‘Helena’, we took of on the ‘Waterweg’ on to the North Sea, which was calmly waiting for us. We watched the ships passing us by, one even bigger and faster than the other. Thanks to a kind eastern wind we sailed into the night with the course pulling us forth.
Meanwhile we are getting closer to Great Britain and we have set sail to the River Orwell to spend the Friday night.
