On our way after the Kieler Woche
30 June 2014
Captain Bernt:
“On our way to Helgoland we look back on a succesfull Kieler Woche. There were less visitors, but the tours we did have, were a lot of fun. The weather was okay, occasionally we had some sun. The positive side of sailing less trips is that we could finish some of the tasks that still had to be done on board. Some of the days we worked all day long. The great thing about sailing at Kieler Woche is that you don’t have to go anywhere specific, just go where the wind takes you! Topsail up, jibe, tack, course up, course down, it was never too much and the guests enjoyed the sailing a lot! And due to working with the same catering company we’ve worked with during the previous Kieler Wochen, the cooperation was really smooth during the day- and evening trips. On Sunday we had a couple of hours to get the ship ready for the new guests that were coming on board from 2 PM. At 4 PM everyone was on board and we set sail towards the locks at 5 PM. As so called ‘Freifahrer’ we may sail the Kieler Canal at night, so at 4 AM we sailed into the Elbe, right before high tide.
On this moment there are already a few sails up and the motor is helping us a bit, so we can sail the last few miles without the motor on. We will stay the night and evening in Helgoland and we will set sail again during the night.”
