Stopover at Arendal
17 July 2014
Update by captain Maarten:
“After a few nice days in Fredrikstad it was time for the Sail-out. This was going to start at two o’clock, so after lunch we were ready for the event. Unfortunately it all went a bit slower than the organisation had planned and at 6:15 PM the bridge opened for us. Hundreds of people were waving at us and with salutes fired back and forth, we left Fredrikstad. Once outside there was a strong breeze and an accompanying swell, so everybody got familiar with the sea pretty soon. At first we motorsailed south, but the further we came the bigger the swell. So we went for shelter under the Norwegian coast and made good progress. After a choppy night we were ready for some rest and so we went looking for a nice place to stretch our legs. But since it was beautiful sunny weather, we searched for something for the evening. Arendal was at a nice distance, so the choice was easily made. The approach had a fair wind, so we shut down the engine and sailed in, what made a lot of heads turn our way with amazement.
After a good night sleep we are preparing for the next part to Bergen. The wind is still against us, so slowely we will go on and stop when we feel like it or when we see a really beautiful place. (Check the log.)”
