21 Jul To the Preikestolen
To the Preikestolen
21 July 2014
Update by captain Maarten:
“After a quiet night in Arendal we continued our way. The sun was shining on the ship and surrounding blue waters. But, sadly, the wind was still against us, so we went on engine. In the morning a gentle breeze came up, so we hoisted the sails and sailed into the Rosfjord. At the end we dropped anchour and spent the day walking ashore, swimming, sunbathing and reading. Just before dinner we heaved anchor and while enjoying dinner and the magnificent view, we sailed out again. At the entrance, or exit (depends on how you look at it) we met the ‘Wilde Swan’ and wished each other fair winds. The plan was to go to Egersund in the morning, so we went slowly. But it would not go as planned.
A bit of wind came and, who would expect it, it was from the right direction! So we put up all sails and let the motor sleep again. When we were near the entrance of Egersund the decision to sail on was an easy one. So we set course for Stavanger. Meanwhile the fishing lines behind the ship started to pay off with some nice mackerels. The wind died out at the end of the afternoon and we went into Stavanger Harbour. The harbour master said there was no free space at the quay, so we went alongside ‘Wilde Swan’ for a social night.
Sunday we spent with a tour to the Preikestolen, a nice rock formation in the shape of a pulpit. Only this one is 604 meters high.. Everybody put on their hiking boots, water and lunch were packed and on our way for a beautiful day. And since the weather could not be better, the view was phenomenal!
Today, Monday, we sail the ‘Oosterschelde’ into the Lysefjord to get an even better impression of the shear size of the Preikestolen.”
