Hardangerfjord
17 August 2014
After a quiet night we left Farsund behind us. There was still a heavy swell, so it took a while before we were really out in the open. The wind had decreased a lot, but there was still a strong breeze waiting for us. Soon we set sail and sailed close-hold away from the coast. Slowly we could veer off and in the morning we gybed near Kvitsøy to get in again. In Stavanger we were able to stay at the Strandkaien again, so near the old part of town, at a stone’s throw from the city center. Time to come to strength again after an evening and night full of waves and wind. The next morning the Preikestolen was the thing to do. So early breakfast and up the mountain for one of the best views in Norway. Jessica, our cook, had brought quiches and wine for lunch. Delicious!
When all hands were back on board we casted off and dropped anchor a few miles further. Swimming, enjoying some wine, fishing etc. The plan for the next day was to go to the Bomlafjorden, but the predicted wind came earlier and stronger then expected and made us slow down. So we decided to look for a nice bay near Røyksund and continue the next day.
That turned out to be a wise decision, for on the next day, when we were out, the wind turned and we sailed nicely the whole day. Up the Bomlafjorden, into the Hardangerfjord. This Hardangerfjord we went in all the way and tied up at the far end in Odda, in the Sørfjorden. The only real downside of a fjord is that the way in is also the way out, but with the views of the green mountains on both side with waterfalls coming down all around you that is definitely no punishment!
