05 Mar In Horta
In Horta
5 March 2015
Update of March 5 2015, by Jan ten Dam:
“The arrival at Horta (Faial, Açores) was foreseen at about noon today. Most of us were looking forward to it. This morning I did my watch from 4 till 8.
This watch starts in the dark because it is cloudy. The temperature is 17 degrees, so it feels a bit chilly. As time goes by this changes. While the moon slowly sets at the port side, the sun is rising at starboard. As the light gets stronger we manage to see the difference between the clouds and land. The island Pico, with its mountain of about 2,5 kilometres high, is first to be seen. But shortly after that we can see Faial. Like the guests are smelling the land, the one after the other arrives on deck to see it for themselves. It is still a while to go, but eventually we moor in Horta at 12:30. On shore there are already some people interested to see this beautiful ship arrive. Although I’m looking forward to the next part of our voyage, my main concern is to get in touch with home. Tomorrow the guests have the opportunity to explore the island. On Saturday we will continue our voyage up north.”
