11 March 2015

Update of Tuesday 10th of March by Woody:
“Since the beginning of our journey we have had a lecture or workshop every day. Subjects like depressions, celestial navigation or tying knots. Today the subject was ocean rowing. Every year there are an estimated 20 people that row across the ocean. Two thirds of which make it to the (or at least an) other side. One third unfortunately has to give up and needs to find another way to get to where they want to go, maybe as a sailing cooks mate. I for one am glad that I have chosen a sailing ship to get across the ocean, not a rowing boat.
At this moment we are in the stretched warm sector of a depression. That means wet wind and grey skies, as we have learned in the lecture about depressions. It also brings a nice southwesterly wind, force 4-5 Bft, that has been keeping our speed above 7 knots for over 24 hours now. The day distance is 180 nautical miles (333km)! The sea watches set the pace. After the always hectic days ashore, we are all back in the slow and relaxed rhythm of the ocean.”
