Shiant Bay

Shiant Bay

8 June 2015

The new quests stepped on board in Oban. After the usual welcome we left straight away and sailed into the Sound of Mull. We have spent the night anchored in Scallastle Bay. After breakfast we left towards Tobermory to enjoy everything the village has to offer. The next morning the depression, which held us to the side, was over and we sailed to the open water. We used the engine for the first bit, but then hoisted the sails and enjoyed a nice afternoon of sailing in the Scottish waters, on our way to the island Canna. At the end of the afternoon we dropped anchor to give everyone the opportunity to take a walk. After dinner some of us took another stroll before we raised anchor. Because the weather forecast was good for today, we started the engine and sailed through the night to the Shiant Islands. We dropped anchor this morning in the bay and brought the guest to shore for a morning of sea birds spotting. There is someone on board who really wanted to see puffins. A dream came true, they fly around in swarms! As are the guillemots, petrels, shags, black backed gulls, etc. This time we do not have a real birdwatcher on board, so it is possible that there are a few mistakes in the determination…
