Ocean swell
10 June 2015
After a morning of bird watching at the Shiant islands, we have set sail towards Stornoway. Just before we reached the harbour we had to tack to get closer under sail. After one more tack we only had to go one mile before reaching the harbour and we took down the sails. We got another beautiful spot on the Esplanade Quay, at the beginning of the river.
Some of us used the evening to catch up with some sleep, others went to the bar, but breakfast was ready by 8 o’clock for all of us. After that a big group with guidance from Nicki went to the Standing Stones for a piece of history. One of us went back to the bar to drink away his hangover…
A bit after six o’clock everyone was back on board and we casted off to sail to our next destination, Rona. Right outside the harbour the first sails were set and after rounding Eye Peninsula the forecourse was hoisted. Now, around midnight, we are near the Butt of Lewis and for the first time we feel how the ocean swell moves the ship without effort. A movement not everybody can appreciate… We hope that we can find a bit of shelter and anchor when we get to Rona…
