100 years

In 2017 the ‘Oosterschelde’ will be 100 years old. For a vessel that is a big age. And also for ships age comes with defects. Fortunately the ship is inspected annually, that way we keep a close eye on how the state of the ship is. Upon inspection earlier this year we found some spot in the hull that where under the norm. We repaired the small pieces then, but now we want to do a big overhaul, where we replace parts of the hull and also clean and preserve the bottom of the ship from the inside. That is a big job, because to be able to do this we have to remove a lot of the woodwork and this will also have to be rebuilt later. ‘En passant’ the cabins, showers and toilets in the stern are being completely refurbished. Also the piping (drainage pipes, fire mains, sanitary, etc.) will completely be renewed. We will be in Lauwersoog for the ironwork and the piping for the next five weeks so the coming period the ‘Oosterschelde’ will not be sailing.
