Bermuda Triangle (BT)
3 May 2016
Update by Frits:
“Up until today we had a smooth and relaxed sailing. As we are heading for Bermuda we have to pass through the famous BT, what for obvious reasons is making some people nervous.
Many stories were published about disappearing ships and the possible reasons how and why. A long time ago we ran a test in a lab in Rotterdam by floating a ship’s model in a fish tank. Next thing one did was to inject methane (which is a gas) into the fish tank and see what happened: The ship sank!
A mixture of water and gas causes less lift as the density of this mixture is far less than that of water. The area we are heading for is rich of this methane, embedded in the seafloor and used as a feedstock for the production of methanol. As we are just a little spot in the ocean there is no reason to be worried. We carry on doing where we are good at, ‘ENJOYING OURSELVES and HAVING A GOOD TIME!’”
