17 May Star Tracker
Star Tracker

Update Serge Lépage:
“The ‘Oosterschelde’ is underway since a little more than 48 hours and we are about 350 nautical miles away from Bermuda. We are now sailing eastward, pushed by a 15 knots south-westerly breeze. For a while, we had eight sails on and the ship speed reached 8,5 knots. This morning, while it was raining, the mizzen was lowered to take a reef. It was not hoisted back during my watch, the Blue watch 08:00 to 12:00 and 20:00 to midnight. Just after the end of the watch, we saw dolphins playing at the bow of the ship. Just before the rain, we saw a beautiful rainbow at the western horizon. During our previous watch, under a partly cloudy sky, we could see the Moon, few planets and many stars, enough to be tempted to use the app ‘Star Tracker’ to verify our knowledge of the celestial bodies. It was great fun.
So far, the journey is beyond my expectations. The Captain, crew and guests are great, the Cook prepares incredibly good food, the ‘Oosterschelde’ is a treasure of Dutch maritime history that I discover with great pleasure and the Atlantic Ocean waters a medicine that my sailor’s soul requested for a long time. I know we have fantastic times to come and I wish that everybody could live such an incredible experience. To all my fellow voyage companions I say: “Bon voyage. La mer est belle”.”
