Update Arco de Vries:
“Fantastic how everything is going. We still have winds about 4 Bft from the South. You almost think we are on a cruise ship. Luckily that isn’t the case, but it is an indicator of how things are going and how we are enjoying everything. With only your pink finger you can steer the ‘Oosterschelde’ trough the waves. That gives enough time to learn different things like ‘klaverjassen’, which Annique was mentioning a couple of days ago. We had our first and second lesson of a crash course, a lot more are necessary. Most of us will go to Rotterdam, so time enough to learn the game.
But we are on the ‘Oosterschelde’ for sailing. The watch at night was very special. The first nights the moon was just a little slice in the sky, so we had enough time to watch stars, discover star signs, and enjoy the milky way. In the meantime, the moon got bigger and bigger, what of course isn’t good for starwatching and it gives the feeling that we are sailing with a lantern, which makes the night special in a different way. It isn’t cold during the nights and with a cup of coffee or tea and some biscuits it is actually very good.
Nothing to complain! Well if you want to, there is always something to complain about…
After the message that we are running out of Brasso, we are also running out of beer and all the chocolate is already gone. A few things that make our stay on the ‘Oosterschelde’ even better. Luckily captain Arian had a trick so we will get new supplies sooner: moving the clock one hour forward but before we reach the Azores, chef Richard will keep our bellies full. I even didn’t have to miss my weekly burger. In the coming days I will learn to make bread. That’s one of the things how we stay busy on our trip on the ocean.”
