20 May Birthday on the Atlantic Crossing
Birthday on the Atlantic Crossing
20 May 2016
Update by Tim:
“When I entered the saloon there was a happy birthday message in 5 languages written on the blackboard and the saloon was decorated with flags. After the heavy rainfall of the day before, we were very pleased with today’s beautiful weather. We were treated to a blue sky, a small breeze and a burning sun. Even though we did not have a lot of wind, we still did around 4 knots with the outer jib, course, topsail, upper topsail and the main sail up.
Although it was my birthday the working still continued for the crew, so I painted some blocks and did some rust picking, which was not a punishment on this beautiful day. Later in the afternoon we spotted a large group of about 40 Melon-headed whales!!
When the dinner bell rang and I entered the saloon, everybody was singing. The friends I made during this trip wrote me a poem and I got multiple presents. The cook prepared a delicious meal and made me a beautiful birthday cake. After dinner we sat around the table and sang songs for hours. I could not have imagined a nicer birthday than this! I want to thank everybody for this wonderful day, a day I will never forget.”
