Fêtes Maritimes de Brest 2016
17 July 2016
Once every 4 years the most beautiful sailing ships gather in Brest. Compared to other Sail festivals, Brest has so many great historic ships. Of course there are some of the big and well-known, like the ‘Kruzenshtern’ and the ‘Santa Maria Manuela’. But one can see so many small wooden classic ships and boats that cannot be seen elsewhere. Many Dutch ships also are present. Our personal favourite is the ‘Cancalaise’, a so-called ‘bisquine’, orginally a wooden oyster catcher from the area just north of Brest. Just now she tacked close to us (see the photos). What a sight!
