Shelter in Stornoway
7 August 2016
In the middle of the night we arrived at Stornoway. A nice sheltered harbour on the northeast side of the isle of Lewis. A great spot to wait for the bad weather to pass. We were not the only ones who thought of this, so we met the ‘Wylde Swan’. Yesterday we made an excursion to the standing stones, while other took time to explore around town, do some shopping and to see the Carnival. A bit weird, carnival in Scottish weather.
The wind increased more and more; yesterday our guests were already happy to be in the harbour, but today they are even more happy. The harbour is very sheltered but we still measured 30-35 knots of wind on deck (7 to 8 Bft)! A fisherman told us that outside there’s 45-50 knots of wind. The wind will be at it strongest for the next few hours. During the night the wind will decrease and this means we can continue our trip.
