North of Cuba
22 April 2017
Our plans to visit the island Great Inagua didn’t work out. We saw the island with the beautiful name from afar. By the time, we would have reached the island it would have been dark and we would have had to wait the whole night to be able to visit the island and we unfortunately don’t have enough time. So, we continue our way to Cuba without any further stops.
On board, we are adjusted to the rhythm at sea: 6 hours on, 6 hours off. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between we steer, repair, jibe and adjusts the sails.
Last night it drizzled and today the sun has a difficult time breaking through the clouds. It’s never boring. We just saw a tropic bird and we caught a big Mahi-Mahi again.
We are already north of Cuba, but it’s still quite far to our destination. Cuba is about 1000 km long and our destination is next to Havana on the northwest coast. The wind is coming from the east so we are going downwind. The waves are not too high so except from the occasional unexpected high one we are not swaying too much and with 7 knots we have a good speed we hope to keep the next few days.
