After the race
27 August 2017
First mate Jan reports: “After we raced over the finish line we congratulated each other with great result in the race. We jibed and set course southeast to Guernsey. We decided it would be nice to visit the Channel Islands and to explore the Breton coast, one of my favorite European sailing areas. After all we still have two weeks left to do nice stuff, its lonely at the top 😉
First Guernsey then Jersey and from there we headed more south and arrived in the touristy Saint-Cast-le-Guildo. Because it was a sunny day many ships/boats came out to give us a warm welcome. Our next stop is Cancale, famous for the mussel fishing and the Cancalaise, the sailing ship that was used for catching mussels.
From Cancale we sailed on to Îles Chausey, a group of islands that is flooded at high tide, but during low tide it has a beautiful landscape. A very special spot that is inhabited by a handful of fishermen.
Meanwhile we have left Granville where we spend the weekend during the Festival des Voiles de Travail. We are now trying to catch a bit of wind to tack out of the English Channel. The current is about to turn so it will be difficult… Greetings to everyone at home.”
