Jan ten Dam keeps us updated:
“With a partly new crew we sailed out of Santa Cruz and left Tenerife. As soon as we left the harbour, the first sails were up. Under a clear blue sky we set sail to the south, on our way to Sal. It is a good prospect to be at sea for a few days and to be in the watch system again.
The period we spend in the harbour was very diverse. First of all, there was New Years Eve. All of us made a toast and ate some traditionally Dutch ‘oliebollen’. At midnight the new year was greeted with a canon shot and the horn. The city of Tenerife had organized a great fireworks show. The party on deck went on after midnight, and some of us partied a bit more ashore. On new years day, most of the city was closed. The crew was busy with the ship, and the guest crew explored the island. January 2nd was the day of the swap, so some of the guest crew disembarked to go home. That day the shops in Tenerife were open again, and it appeared to be a vibrating city with great places to eat and drink. It can be worse, spending the 2nd of January with a great lunch in nice weather. We could contact home again, and after speaking to our beloved ones it was time again to focus us on the voyage to Sal. The weather and wind forecasts are good, and we expect to be able to sail a lot.
