Dear real-world
2 March 2018
Update by trainee Heike:
“I hope you still exist and you are well. To be honest, I do not think about you a lot these days. I will return to you eventually, but right now I am happier without you. There are 21 souls on the good ship ‘Oosterschelde’ and I think we all feel very lucky to be here. Just a few days ago a bunch of strangers – for this voyage we are a family. Our days are warm and blue and peaceful. Occasionally we get visited by a whale, jellyfish or a bird.
The only thing we are lacking is wind which, of course, is not unimportant for a sailing ship. So far, we had to rely on the motor that is bringing us the needed 5,8 nautical miles per hour closer to our destination. But we will get wind at some point and the moment when the sound of the motor disappears und the sails start filling is much anticipated. So dear real-world, it is very hard – maybe impossible – to really tell you what this voyage is like. To be on the ocean, so far away from you. But we will try. For now, just know: all is well.”
