28 May Arrival Horta
Arrival Horta
28 May 2018
The last part of our voyage was in the Azores-High, so there was no wind at all. It is very special to see the ocean so quiet and flat! Beautiful, but as a sailing vessel we do like to have a little wind. It seemed there was a little breeze yesterday, so we hoisted the sails immediately. Just to give it a go. If you sail closehauled you create a bit of wind yourself, so we hoped we would create enough to sail. However, it turned out to be false hope. But we have got a trick or two up our sleeves, so we tacked and tried again. Unfortunately, this also did not turn out well as our course was north-west and we wanted to go eastwards. So, we turned on the engine to sail in the right direction.
This morning we arrived at Horta, at the island of Faial, a part of the Azores. There was supposed to be a spot for us, but a yacht spotted ‘our’ spot as well and was berthed there. The harbor master asked the captain to leave, since we really did not fit elsewhere. When he saw us he understood the situation. He sailed a little further into the harbor, so we could have ‘our’ spot.
