Happy birthday
3 September 2018
When it’s someone’s birthday we always celebrate it. We decorate with balloons, the cook bakes a cake and we make sure there is a gift. But when it’s a birthday of a crewmember we go all out! And this is not always good for the crewmember.
Today it’s Richards turn. The rest of the crew have thought out a plan in time on what to give and what to do. Of course, we decorated the saloon, but also the galley was filled with balloons. Out of every cupboard Richard opened at least one balloon came out including from the fridges and freezers.
At breakfast we sang, and he received his first gift: a self-made apron, decorated with useful recipes. Richard can now make tea, ice cubes, prepare a ham and cheese sandwich, boil an egg etc.
After dinner there is usually a cake, so Richard baked himself a cake. But that wasn’t necessary of course because Manon made two cakes in the night shift as a surprise. Because the birthday boy usually doesn’t eat cake, we made two very big and sweet cigarettes for him. With the cakes we gave him his real gift: an apron. And the great thing is: there is still cake left for tomorrow!
