Favourable winds
11 December 2018
Update from Captain Arian:
“After some windy and rainy days in the Bay of Biscay we found the favourable winds towards the south. Leaving the coast of Portugal also meant the quietness of the ocean. No more phone, apps, mail, blogs or whatever media is keeping us busy. Just us and the sea.
After some days we saw the Ilhas Selvagens. We had the idea of anchoring in the bay and perhaps even land on the Ilhas Grande. A very friendly voice on VHF Channel 16 welcomed us and even suggested that we could use the mooring in the bay belonging to the Portugese navy. Landing however seemed not possible due to the westerly swell pounding on the rocks.
The following morning, chiefmate Jan boarded the dinghy to explore if landing was possible, but unfortunately it was not. Even the present we wrapped for the few people inhabiting the island he had to throw ashore. Leaves us with a refreshing morning swim and coffee before departing to sea again. Our next destination: St.Cruz de Tenerife.”
