26 Feb English reef
English reef
26 February 2019
Last night we arrived at Boa Vista. There was less wind than the expected 6 beaufort and despite the reefs in the sails we made a very fast crossing from São Nicolau. Somewhere else on the Atlantic there was a lot of wind and the result of that, the high swell, is making our life difficult.
Last night it was hard to find a good anchor spot. The long swell is pushed up by the shallow waters and while on the right the waves are breaking on the beach, they are breaking on the left with a lot of noise on ‘English reef’. Especially in the dark this is a bit of a scary experience. Despite the reef that break the waves we are swinging quite heavily behind our anchor. So, for breakfast the non-skid mats will definitely be necessary. Later we have to see if it will be possible to land on the island. In these circumstances it is possible that we are not able to.
