Short-finned pilot whales
26 March 2019
After a few days of scratching, painting, cleaning and many more mainentance tasks, we received a new guestcrew on board yesterday. They have joined us on our last trip in Cape Verde this season.
As always, we asked the people what they expect from the trip and what they would like to see, do or experience. One answered jokingly that they would like to see a white whale. So, we have sent an email to the Whale Coordination Centre, perhaps they can help us with our quest…
This morning after breakfast we set off to Santiago. During the explanation on deck, we saw a fin. Soon everyone was distracted from the explanation and started watching the fin. It turned out to be a short-finned pilotwhale. Few moments later, we saw another one, and another one. A group of 20 short-finned pilot whales were swimming alongside the ship. They were gorgeous up close!
Well, we haven’t seen a white whale (yet), but perhaps the Whale Coordination Center already tried her best for this amazing start of our trip!
