Trollfjord
10 August 2019
We found out why the Lofoten are described in every travel book about Norway, it is so beautiful here. Yesterday we spend the last day in the Lofoten visiting the Trollfjord. This small fjord has a very narrow entrance with steep cliffs of hundred meters high. Once you are in, you can admire the green hills and waterfalls.
We were there for a few reasons: to show everyone how beautiful it is, to bring guests on shore to stretch their legs, to spot the White-tailed eagle that live here and to fish for cod. We ticked every box, except we did not manage to catch cod. Only whiting and pollack.
A few hours later we mentally left the Lofoten by passing the Raftsund bridge. A few miles further we dropped anchor for the night. Because the catch if that afternoon there were more guests excited to give it a try so with about 7 of us, we tried again. While enjoying the amazing sky during the sunset we caught flounder.
Today we wanted to sail to the Vesteralen on the westside of the island, but due to the swell not everyone appreciated this. Therefore, we changed our plan and found a bit more sheltered water below Skogsøy. But all the bridges are too low for us, so we have to get out to sea. Luckily tomorrow the wind will be much less, and we hope the swell will be too. For now, we dropped anchor at Nyksund.
Here the fisherman and women are trying their luck again and they already arranged some fish for the BBQ tonight! If the wind and swell allow, we will sail on the continental shelf tomorrow to finally spot some whales!
