“Last summer Jan Gores sailed on the IDE MIN to prepare to come back on board the OOSTERSCHELDE as captain”, was written in the OOSTERSCHELDE newsletter no 64 of November 2019. And now the moment is there, and I will be doing my first trip as a captain. With the guests on board, we spend the night in the bay of Palmeira on Sal to leave the next morning for Santiago.

I did not expect that I would be nervous. I know the ship, the sailing area and how we work. But now the time is there, I did not sleep so well the last few days and I have, let’s say, a healthy dose of nerves rushing through me. But the first two days are going well…
