19 Feb A nice first day
A nice first day
19 February 2020
After a smooth changeover day, the new guests came on board. A mixed company with many nationalities.
When everyone was given a cabin and the welcome talk was finished, we wanted to leave quickly to spend the night in a bay.
So we hoisted the dingy up, prepared a few sails and then raised the anchors. The first anchor didn’t cooperate. When that anchor came to the surface it became clear why: we had ‘caught’ a large steel crate. We had to struggle to get rid of this obstacle. Once released, the other anchor raised effortlessly and the jib could also be raised. Soon the topsail followed and we sailed out of the port of Palmeira.
Yesterday it was a beautiful sailing day. We had 100nM to go and there was a wind force 4 from the north. Sun with it, a few brown gents, flying fish and after the sun had set a beautiful starry sky. What a nice first day!
Today we are anchored at Tarrafal, Santiago and almost all guests are going to discover this island. Tomorrow we will deviate from the ‘normal’ route and first visit San Nicolao before we go to Mindelo. This to catch a piece of carnival in the cultural capital of Cabo Verde.
