Without COVID-19, the OOSTERSCHELDE would have been sailing near Madeira by now. This year, it would have been the 10th time sailing our winter sun voyages in Cape Verde. We did it for the first time in 2008. At the time our crew and guests were busy with preparations for Sinterklaas and they wrote about the beauty of the nature around them after a few days of bad weather:
4-12-2008: Nature is amazing. During the watch from 04:00 until 08:00 hours, a beautiful starry sky showed itself from between the clouds. Plankton, which was illuminated by the water, was sparkling along the ship. Both gave the night a fairy-tale-like feeling. The next day the wind decreased, and we had to turn on the engine on our way to Madeira. However this did not affect the pleasant atmosphere at all. People were reading, talking and writing poems for ‘Sinterklaas’ (St. Nicolas). On the morning of December 5th we will approach Madeira and see if we can enter the harbour, anchor there or continue sailing to Tenerife. Other than that, everyone is fine.
