14 Mar Update Boudewijn
Update Boudewijn
14 March 2021
And then suddenly there is the pandemic. From the end of March, the entire Dutch sailing fleet was in port not sailing. Because Marjolein, my wife, had her birthday last winter (she turned 50) I wanted to stay home for a winter. As a result, my last trip was in September 2019. “Then I will sail again in April / May”, I thought then. That turned out to be quite different.
Fortunately, I have another profession and that is carpentry and because I work as a freelancer, I could find some jobs to do. Furthermore, Marjolein and I bought a sailboat 2 years ago that had quite some overdue maintenance and I have been busy with that last year.
We refurbish the boat, and the intention is to sail around the UK coming summer to try everything out properly. Then we want to investigate whether the voyage around the UK can be expanded to a voyage around the world. All quite exciting and it requires a lot of preparation. So that also keeps me busy during the pandemic. The condition of the boat is that she is now almost ready. We hope to be able to put the masts back on in 2 weeks and then we are ready to sail.
I also really hope that we can sail with the OOSTERSCHELDE again and that we can make beautiful trips with nice guests. So hopefully see you soon on board or somewhere on the water.
