Father and son trip
My son Rufus Hegeman – never sailed before – dropped everything when, as the ultimate surprise, I asked him 24 hours before departure if he wanted to join me on the Oosterschelde. Child accommodated, work arranged and there he sat with his (rather old) father the next day at the Veerhaven waiting in the sun to be allowed on board. Ten fathers, ten sons, and a hospitable crew: a golden formula. The red watch during a foggy night on the North Sea, spectacular arrival in Oude Schild, overnight stay on Texel with a bike ride along the Wadden Sea and the next day back with a north-westerly wind to Hook of Holland. How close can you get as a father and son? Well like this!
