30 Jul Only 24 hours to go

Our tactic to position ourselves west of the field has worked well. Although we were actually last in our class from the start of the race, we have been catching up in the last 24 hours and are now third (17:00 UTC). Now comes the really tricky part of this race: keep going and keep up with the faster ships close to us.
That comes down to very concentrated steering, to keep the ship as straight as possible on course with as little rudder as possible. Sailing every mile more is now a waste of time and the sails have been trimmed to the course to be steered in such a way that a deviation of more than 5 degrees already gives a significant reduction in speed. In short, the next 24 hours are going to be very difficult!
But the atmosphere on board, which was good throughout the race, is even better if possible. Everyone is very much in the racing mindset. Even our cook Richard regularly visits the wheelhouse to see how things are going. I think he has been in the wheelhouse more often in the past 24 hours than in the past 5 years 😉
Another 24 hours to catch up on numbers 1 and 2 and ensure that numbers 4 to 14 don’t pass us again.
Another 24 hours…
