Ocean Race Cabo Verde

After the guests of our first Island-Hopping trip disembarked in Palmeira, the Oosterschelde sailed to Mindelo, with only our professional crew on board. It takes a lot of work to set all sails with such a little crew, but the result was impressive, as we sailed with 8,5 knots straight to Mindelo!

That we went to Mindelo has everything to do with The Ocean Race 2023, which started on January 5 in Alicante. Mindelo is the first host port on route of the ‘toughest team race in the world’. Over the past two days, the racing yachts have been slowly trickling in.

The Oosterschelde is moored next to all VO65 and IMOCA ships. The difference between our 106-year-old, classic sailing ship and the ultra-modern racing yachts is obvious. Where the Oosterschelde is robustly built, with steel and many wooden spars, only the most modern and strongest materials are used for these racing yachts.
