The first mango tree

As you have probably already read in the newsletter or here on the website, the ‘Oosterschelde’ offered 200 mango trees to the alderman of Tarrafal (Santiago) 3 weeks ago. Today we planted the first mango trees! We were invited to be at the town hall at 9 in the morning. With a group of 12 guests and crew members from the ‘Oosterschelde’, the alderman of Tarrafal, the mayor’s assistant and Cees Koldijk from the Cape Green Projects foundation, we walked to the street where the trees will be planted. Tarrafal municipal workers were already busy digging the holes. We just had to plant the trees. I planted the first tree together with the alderman. Then it was the turn of our guests and crew members. Within no time the first 10 trees were in the ground.
