Kieler Woche

After Scheveningen we sailed to Kiel without guests to arrive in time for the Kieler Woche. With a very light breeze we were able to sail a large part of the trip. We were in Kiel well in time to prepare the ship for the Kieler Woche on Sunday.

Of course we have already done the Kieler Woche 17 times, but it remains a party every time. Sometimes twice a day sometimes once, but always with lots of happy people on board. We don’t have to go anywhere, and the fjord is big enough for sailing. So usually, we set the sails immediately with the help of the guests. Of course, they also get plenty to eat and drink.

The beauty of the Kieler Woche is always that the crew can practice a lot. We often tack dozens of times a day and we always try to set all the sails.

I always let the first mate sail as much as possible so that I have my hands free to talk to the guests, who I have often known for just as long, and often also to do a few small tasks. When we moor at the end of the day, it is always a matter of discussing with the neighbors who goes first and who has to leave in the evening. That always works great just like the entire collaboration with the German crews of the ships in our Päckchen.

We even had dinner together twice this year with the crew of the four ships, which is about 60 people.

Tonight we have the last evening cruise, after which we clean the ship and carry the catering stuff off board. Tomorrow we will prepare the ship for the journey to Den Helder.
