Unstable weather
Yesterday, we had to use the engine for a significant part of the day. It was typical “doldrums weather” with little wind and occasional short but heavy rain. Because we had to keep everything closed, the temperature inside the ship became extremely high. To cool off a bit, we decided to go for a swim. Right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, with a depth of 5200 meters. We were probably the first people ever to swim here.
Today was a busy day with many sail changes. The weather is still unstable, but there is a bit more wind now. With alternating the course sail, staysail, jibs, and mainsail, we are trying to maintain enough speed. When a big squall approaches, we furl the headsail again, but with all that effort, we manage to reach the speed we want. The weather outlook seems quite favorable, as the easterly wind looks like it will continue tomorrow as well.
