Pitcairn

This morning we arrived at Pitcairn. By reducing or increasing sail a little as the wind increased or decreased, we planned to reach the island at the very first daylight. After so many days of just sea and sky, the island seems even greener than it is, we see palm trees and densely wooded slopes. The settlement of Adamstown sits atop the high cliffs at Bounty Bay, where the wreck of the Bounty must still be. Because of the northerly winds and associated swell and waves, we could not anchor there, so we anchored on the south side of the island. There, most of us were picked up by the island’s longboat. Now that (almost) everyone is ashore, we are cleaning the ship and eagerly waiting to see what stories everyone will come back on board with later!
