Bora Bora
French Polynesia is incredibly large. It covers the area of all of Europe. And while there are many islands, they are therefore quite far apart and very different. If the raving websites are to be believed, Bora Bora is the most beautiful island of all. So we wanted to see it and preferably on a day with good weather.
The weather in this region is determined by the large low pressure systems that pass far south of us, every few days. They cause the winds, which are usually southeasterly, to move more to the east and, when the fronts pass, go all the way around via the north, west and south.
Unfortunately, the front passage is accompanied by quite a bit of rain. So we planned it so that on Bora Bora we would still have nice weather and after that we would have to settle for some wetter days. That plan worked out well. For the past two days, everyone has seen Bora Bora under a bright sun that conjures the most beautiful colors in this bay. Meanwhile, rain showers are moving over and a lot of rain is expected tonight. We will anchor at first light and then sail to the islands of Tahaa and Raiatea, which lie together in a large lagoon, again surrounded by a large barrier reef.
